Vanja Frlan
Vanja Frlan was born in Rijeka Croatia in 1964. As a child she lived for three years in New Delhi, and from 1970 relocated to Turin Italy, where she graduated in 1990 in Architecture at the Politecnico of Turin.
After working in several architects’ firms in Turin she sets up “Frlan+Jansen Architetti” in 1997, together with Maarten Jansen.

In 2003 “Frlan+Jansen Architetti” gets public distinction and is awarded with Honourable Mention for the project “Office building in industrial area in Collegno – Turin”, at the Gold Medal for Italian Architecture, by the Triennale of Milan. Over the years the firm receives various prizes and publications for its projects including in 2002 the selection at the European Architecture Architects “Luigi Cosenza” Naples, in 2003 the nomination at the Mies van der Rohe Awards 2003 Barcelona, and in 2006 the first prize for the rimodeling of the historic market hall in Falconara Marittima, Ancona.

The work of Vanja Frlan is characterized by a sculptural and conceptual approach to the project, an expressive use of materials and a great attention to the cultural and environmental sustainability.


Maarten Jansen
Maarten Jansen was born in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in 1958, where he got his master’s degree in civil engineering. In 1983 he relocated to Turin, Italy, where he graduated in Architecture at the Politecnico of Turin.

After working in various architectural firms in Turin, Milan, and Bergamo, he sets up “Frlan+Jansen Architetti” in 1997, together with Vanja Frlan.

In 2003 “Frlan+Jansen Architetti” gets public distinction and is awarded with Honourable Mention for the project “Office building in industrial area in Collegno – Turin”, at the Gold Medal for Italian Architecture, by the Triennale of Milan. Over the years the firm receives various prizes and publications for its projects including in 2001 the second prize for the new station of Porta Susa, Turin, in 2003 the nomination at the Mies van der Rohe Awards, Barcelona, and in 2006 the first prize for the remodeling of the historic market hall in Falconara Marittima, Ancona.

The work of Maarten Jansen is characterised by a conceptual and sculptural approach to the project, an expressive use of materials and a great attention to detail. Tridimensional modeling is at the basis both of the territorial and the detailing scale.

Besides his work as an architect, from 2004 to 2009, Maarten Jansen has been teaching as contract professor at the master classes, First School of Architecture, Politecnico of Turin.
